Hoe kan Varodem je helpen?

TEK tips

You have come into possession of a Varodem therapeutic elastic stocking. We would like to explain to you some tips on how to extend the life of the product. Frequently asked questions with answers can be found on our FAQ pages for the stocking wearer and stocking adjuster.

Varodem Grip Glove

By wearing special grip gloves when putting on and taking off your stocking(s), you get a better grip on the material and avoid pulling too hard on the stocking. You also avoid damaging the stockings with your nails or jewelry (ladder prevention). With the help of these grip gloves you can, with less effort, pull the stocking well across your leg or arm without having to grip it. Ask your supplier about these special grip gloves. Important: It is normal to have to pull up a stocking three to four times a day, depending on your mobility and the shape of your leg or arm.

Wash

Machine wash your stocking as often as possible, at least three times a week, in lukewarm water (40º C). Do not use fabric softener, bleach or soak. Do not dry in the sun or using a heat source (stove or radiator). Tip: Use a fine detergent such as Compressana Fine Detergent for compression materials.

Cream and ointment

Be careful when using fatty substances in combination with wearing therapeutic elastic stockings. This is because these are not resistant to grease and affect the rubber threads of the stocking. If you do want to use a cooling gel under your stocking, we recommend using Varodem Aloe Vera Gel, a gel that absorbs into the skin very quickly. This gel is available from your supplier.

Protective sock

Always wear an additional (protective) sock over your therapeutic elastic stocking(s) to extend the life of your stocking. This can be a “regular” cotton sock, a sneaker sock or, for example, a thin panty sock. This extra protection makes the stocking less susceptible to friction in the shoes when walking. Note if you wear slippers, slippers or no shoes at all, this leads to premature wear and therefore a protective sock is necessary.

Care

Make sure you take good care of your feet by keeping your toenails short. In case you wear a stocking with toe piece, your nails will then not pierce through the material. If necessary, you can have your feet taken care of by a medical pedicurist who can also remove excess calluses to prevent premature wear and tear.

Sloping forefoot

Varodem also offers the option to order ready-to-wear stockings with an angled forefoot. Here, it is important to put the stockings on properly inverted: the medial side of the foot section is always the long section and the lateral side is always the short section. In other words, the long part of the forefoot is always worn on the inside of the foot, the short part is always worn on the outside of the foot. Note! In our ready-to-wear stockings we do not apply a label for left and right, not even in our ready-to-wear stockings with the diagonal forefoot option. So it is important to be alert to this when putting on these stockings.
